I close my eyes, feeling tears well up in them once more. I want to tell you that I understand how you feel, but the words stick in my throat. All I can do is nod and promise that I'll think about what you said... that maybe one day we can try again. But for now, I need time alone.

I nod, my voice barely audible even to myself. "I will," I manage to choke out before hanging up the phone and collapsing onto my bed in a sob.
