The sounds of battle erupted around them as the resistance forces closed in, firing upon the troops from every direction. The air was filled with the screams of pain and terror as soldiers fell beneath the onslaught of firepower.
The general felt a strange mixture of relief and despair as she realized that their time had come; her hopes for victory were crushed, but at least she would be spared from further degradation at the hands of Bevola. She struggled against the soldiers who held her, trying to free herself so that she could face whatever punishment awaited her like a true soldier.
"Let me go!" she shouted over the din of battle. "I'm done serving you! I serve my kingdom now!"
She was taken away where she would face judgment for her crimes against the people of the kingdom she served.
The general was dragged away from the battlefield, her head bowed in shame as she thought about what awaited her at the hands of those who had once been her allies and subjects. She steeled herself for whatever punishment they might devise, vowing to endure it with dignity and honor.
"I only did what I thought was best," she muttered under her breath, trying to convince herself that her actions hadn't been so terrible. "Perhaps one day, people will understand." But even as the words left her lips, she knew in her heart that such a time would never come.
She closed her eyes tightly and tried to focus on something besides the sounds of battle and the smell of smoke and blood that filled the air around her. As she sat there, bound and helpless, she could only hope that whatever fate awaited her, it wouldn't be too harsh...
