"Of course," Clarent chimes in before you can finish speaking. "Its better to be prepared than caught off guard." Its voice rings out confidently, displaying none of the uncertainty it had felt earlier when faced with new challenges.
"As I recall, we are tasked with escorting a noblewoman and her entourage through a dangerous forest to deliver an urgent message to the king." The sword pauses for dramatic effect. "
"In brief, ya but things are actually quiet a bit trickier than that. See, the forest has been occupied by a group of rebels that seem to have the backing of some foreign mage organization. They've been provided with a wide assortment of magical traps that they've been using to waylay the knights and footman trying to root them out of the forest, and the noblewoman fears they might use those traps to ambush her convoy as she and her daughter attempt to reach the king. She has men at arms and knights of her own to guard the carriage, but our group will be in charge of keeping an eye our for traps, both magical and mundane, and in the case of an ambush after we rout them our party is charged with making a retaliatory counter strike before they can regroup. That all match what you're expecting?"
Violet eyes narrow. A trap-laying rebel force? Foreign magic users aiding them? This was no simple escort mission...but it would prove Clarent's worth. And that was all that mattered.
