As we make our way out of the haunted house and back towards the safety of home, I can't help but feel a sense of contentment wash over me. Not only have I found another friend in this lonely world, but I also have someone who understands what it's like to be different - someone who appreciates the unique treasures hidden inside me.
"Thank you," I whisper into the night air, my eyes closing as Jacob carries us both close against his warm body. "You don't know how much this means to me."
You're welcome -I lay you both on my bed-
As we settle down onto the softness of Jacob's bed, I can feel the other cat slowly relaxing against me, its body curling into a tight ball as it drifts off to sleep. The night air is filled with the sound of their steady breathing, and for once, the loneliness doesn't seem so bad anymore.
"Goodnight," I whisper softly, my eyes slowly beginning to droop shut. "I promise we'll take care of each other from now on."
