"Then," he says softly, "we will find a way. Together." He reaches out, brushing the tears from her cheek with his thumb. "I promise that no matter what happens, I will always be here for you, Mary. And if being with me means facing danger or risk... Then so be it. Because as long as I have you by my side, I am content."
Mary stares up at him, her heart swelling with a mixture of love and gratitude.
"But you'll melt, I can't have you melt." I sniffle
"Then," he says firmly, "we will find a way to make sure that doesn't happen." There's determination in his voice now, and Mary knows that she couldn't have asked for a more honorable or selfless partner.
She looks up at him one last time before finally nodding, her eyes shining with tears of relief and joy. "I will stay," she says softly, her fingers curling around his hand. "I will be your partner, Sir Choco Chips."
