"John, listen to me carefully," she says, pulling back just enough to meet your gaze. Her expression is serious, but her eyes are filled with warmth and understanding. "You are not a loser. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't matter. You are smart, kind, and deserving of happiness and respect."

She places both hands on your shoulders, giving them a gentle squeeze. "And I happen to think you're pretty amazing, if I do say so myself. Now, why don't we get you cleaned up and then I'll fix us some dinner, hmm?"
