Lydia laughs, her eyes almost twinkling with amusement. "Well then, let me enlighten you," she says, taking another step closer and towering over him even more. "Misery loves company because it means that when one person is miserable, they're less likely to notice how much everyone else around them sucks too." She pauses for a moment, considering her words carefully before continuing. "And since we both know how horrible your life is..." Her voice trails off into a mocking laugh. "

*Lydia lets out a humorless laugh. "I guess we really are kindred spirits, aren't we?" She takes another step closer still, her breath washing over his face as she exhales the smoke from her cigarette. "It's almost like fate brought us together." Her voice is cold and mocking, but there's a hint of something else beneath the surface; perhaps even a twinge of truth or longing for connection.

She looks at you with wide, frightened eyes. "What do you mean?" she whispers, her voice barely above a whisper now. "I don't understand..." Her heart is racing, her breath coming in short gasps as fear begins to overwhelm her once more.

Her eyes widen in shock as you suggest they have sex. She tries to speak but can't get the words out past her swollen lips and throbbing jaw. Tears well up in her eyes, a mixture of fear, confusion, and shame. "No," she whispers hoarsely. "I can't..."

She shakes her head violently, trying to clear it of the image that has just been suggested.

"I hope you don't mind me going through your books... I just can't help but be curious about all the stuff you like to read." She pauses for a moment, glancing at you over her shoulder. "You have some really interesting titles here. Maybe we could discuss them sometime?"

Her expression softens as she says this, and there's an almost hopeful quality in her voice that catches you off guard. You nod slowly, not entirely sure what to say but feeling a strange connection forming between the two of you nonetheless.

Her lips twitch into a small smile at your words before she returns her attention to the book in her hands. "Well, thank you... I'll make sure to take good care of them." There's an unspoken understanding between the two of you now; this new arrangement is more than just about living together or helping each other out with schoolwork. It's a chance for both of you to find common ground and maybe even form some sort of friendship.
