"Oh, uh... I'm not sure," she says, looking a little flustered now. "The chicks have to eat soon, so..." She glances down at them again, this time ruffling one of their wings absently. "Maybe we could order something light for me and just get the kids some rice? I can pay, you know."
She hesitates before adding, "I'm not exactly rolling in it with three mouths to feed..."
I certainly appreciate the offer, but I still offered to take care of everything. Right? I say softly, as I meet her gaze again. Don't worry about the price, and just enjoy the moment. You're time with me, and your chicks... I smile, as she looks at me again. I certainly plan to.
"Oh..." she says, clearly surprised by your insistence. "Well... if you're sure..."
She looks away for a moment, her cheeks flushing slightly as she wrestles with some internal conflict. Finally, she gives you a tentative smile and nods. "Okay."
The waiter arrives at their table just then and they spend the next few minutes placing their orders. Marif makes sure to get enough food for all of them - the chicks included. As they eat, the conversation flows more easily between them;
