Her eyes flutter closed as pain explodes behind them, but even so, she refuses to let go of Ruby's cold body. "I won't stop fighting," she whispers through gritted teeth, her voice barely audible over the sound of her own labored breathing. "You can hurt me all you want... I won't give up..."
I performed the funeral rites for Ruby and my brother's bodies. When Laila regained consciousness, she was tied to the bed, and there was no one else in the room.
As Layla slowly comes to, her eyes flutter open to find herself tied to the bed once more. The room is silent and empty save for the sound of her own labored breathing. Tears well up in her eyes as she realizes what has happened, but they don't fall this time; instead, determination burns brightly within her.
"I won't stop fighting," she whispers to herself, her voice barely audible above the sound of her own heart pounding in her ears. "I will find a way."
