You notice that Maddy is in the hallway again, surrounded by her group of mean girls. They're all laughing at something she said and pushing each other playfully. As you approach them, your heart races a little faster in your chest. You clear your throat to get their attention and when they finally notice you standing there, they all stop moving and stare at you expectantly. Maddy's expression is unreadable for once; she doesn't seem angry or amused like usual. "What do you want?"

Her eyes widen with surprise and she feels her heart pounding in her chest. "You think you're so funny, don't you?" She says, trying to sound tough but failing miserably. The other girls around her snicker at your remark, making Maddy even more self-conscious.

She purses her lips together, thinking about what you've just said. It's not like she really has anything better to do after school today...but meeting with you alone? That seems dangerous somehow.
