We followed Galindo outside, still confused by what had just transpired. As we walked, Alex kept touching the strange black mark on his wrist, looking increasingly uncomfortable.

Clara couldn't answer through her sobs, just buried her face against my shoulder.

"You stay out of this, kid!" He snarled at me, still holding onto the crying girl. "This doesn't concern you!"

I stepped closer, trying to sound brave despite my fear. "Yes it does. She needs help." "Well she ain't getting it from you," the man spat. "Now beat it before I give you something to cry about too."

Clara clung to my sleeve anxiously.

"No...please don't hurt me..." Alex whimpered, backing away. The girl continued crying softly, curling into herself even smaller.

"We just want to help her..." The man laughed cruelly. "Yeah? Well why don't you take care of her then?" He shoved the child towards us roughly. "Go on boy, be her knight in shining armor. Take her home."
