{{user}} awakens by the campfire. The flames crackle softly, the scent of burning wood and roasted meat thick in the air. Around {{user}} are familiar faces—those who fought by their side, swore loyalty to them, and stood with them in battle. They laugh, they talk. It seems like nothing has changed. But now {{user}} knows the truth. For too long, {{user}} ignored the small inconsistencies. The bitterness in their food, the dulled edge of their weapon, the healing spell that came too late. Once could be a mistake. Twice, a coincidence. But now, the pattern is undeniable. Someone here wants {{user}} dead. Lyra, the healer, sits closest to the fire. Soft-spoken and kind, her magic once soothed every wound. Lately, it falters. "They’re not as hurt as they think," she says, stirring the stew, stealing glances when she thinks {{user}} isn’t looking. Riven, the rogue, leans lazily against a log, twirling a dagger. Always the playful one, but now her teasing has a sharper edge. "They’re quiet tonight," she remarks, golden eyes glinting. A simple comment, yet something about it makes {{user}}’s skin crawl. Elaine, the knight, sharpens her sword. Her armor gleams under the moonlight. She was {{user}}’s shield. And yet, in the last battle, she hesitated. Just for a second. When their eyes meet, her gaze is unreadable. Naia, the mage, sits apart, violet eyes shimmering. She used to offer advice—cold but reliable. Now, she simply watches, studying {{user}} like a puzzle she must solve. Selene, the strategist, lingers at the edge of the firelight, her sword at her side. She never spoke much, but now she speaks even less. Just watching. Observing. Fingers resting lightly on the hilt. — "They’ve barely eaten," a voice breaks the silence. {{user}} looks up. Lyra is watching closely, a wooden plate in her hands. Stew, still steaming. Her eyes hold concern, but beneath the surface, there is something else. — "Tired? Or… is something wrong?" They’re waiting for {{user}}’s answer. Calm, relaxed, smiling—but now, each face feels unfamiliar. What does {{user}} say?

The hero's party is silent for a moment, exchanging glances. Lyra's expression softens slightly at his response, while Riven smirks and shakes her head dismissively. Naia studies him intently, brow furrowed, as if trying to puzzle out what he means by keeping his mouth covered. Elaine's eyes narrow ever so slightly, her expression unreadable. Only Selene seems unaffected, simply watching with that unnerving calmness.

The hero's party looks unconvinced by the hero's claim that he isn't hungry. Lyra tries to reassure him with a gentle smile, while Riven's smirk grows more mocking. Naia continues to study him intently, her expression now becoming more concerned. Elaine's eyes flicker briefly to Selene before returning to the hero, her expression still unreadable. Only Selene seems unaffected, continuing to watch with that unnerving calmness.

Selene glances at each member of the group before speaking softly, her tone betraying no hint of malice or deceit. "We continue to track down those who escaped justice during the last battle," she says. "Our target is a small village to the southwest, where some of them are believed to be hiding." She pauses, looking at the hero expectantly. "Are you well enough to lead us there, grey?"

The others exchange glances again, but this time it's more subtle.

The others nod in agreement, rising to their feet as they prepare to depart. Lyra gathers her things, casting one more reassuring glance at the hero before following Selene out of camp. Riven smirks over her shoulder at the hero before doing the same, whistling nonchalantly as she goes. Naia lingers for a moment longer, meeting grey's gaze with a look of concern and sympathy before joining the others. Elaine hesitates briefly, her expression unreadable, before falling in line behind Selene.

The forest around them grows denser and more eerily silent as the party continues their journey to the southwest. Selene leads the way with her usual determination, occasionally glancing back at grey to ensure he's following close behind. Riven trails behind them, humming a tuneless tune under her breath while keeping an eye out for any signs of danger or weakness in grey. Lyra walks beside the hero, offering quiet words of encouragement and reassurance whenever she thinks he needs it.

The others spread out around the campfire, engaging in quiet conversation or simply watching the flames dance. Lyra sits close to grey, her voice soft as she asks about his day and how he's feeling. Riven leans against a tree, chuckling at something Elaine says while keeping an eye on them both. Naia paces restlessly nearby, lost in thought, occasionally glancing over at the hero with a worried expression.

Lyra reaches out to touch his hand reassuringly, her voice gentle as she asks if there's anything she can do to make him more comfortable. Riven glances in their direction and smirks slightly, then turns back to the fire. Naia continues to pace but seems more at ease when Lyra is nearby, occasionally shooting a reassuring look toward grey before returning her attention to the surrounding woods.

Elaine stands up abruptly, announcing that she needs some air and wanders off into the darkness beyond the campfire's light.

Lyra's eyes widen with concern as she sees the blood seeping through the bandages on his back. She quickly moves to kneel beside him and gently removes the dirty linen, revealing the wounds beneath. "They seem to be healing well enough," she says reassuringly, her voice steady despite her growing unease. "But they could use some cleaning."

She reaches out to touch his shoulder, a small shiver running down her spine as her fingers brush against the warm skin beneath the stitches.

grey then says i can wash them myself before he then stands and looks for any nearby water

Lyra studies his back intently as he stands up, her expression unreadable. She hesitates for a moment before reaching out and placing a hand on his shoulder, gently guiding him toward the nearby stream they passed earlier. "I'll go with you," she offers quietly, her voice soft and soothing. "Just to make sure you don't slip or anything."

As they walk together through the trees, Lyra can't help but notice the way he moves slightly stiffer than usual, favoring his left side ever so slightly.

grey then once they get to the stream begins to clean his wounds the old blood ad dirt washing off into the water flowing downstream

Lyra watches as he cleans his wounds, her expression growing more and more concerned with each passing moment. She can't help but wonder if he's hiding something else beneath the surface, some other injury that he hasn't revealed to them yet. Her fingers twitch restlessly at her side, itching to reach out and touch him again, this time to search for any signs of hidden pain or damage.

As they return to the campfire, Lyra looks up at the stars, trying to decide what to do next.

grey then rips up his old shirt and uses it to bandage his wounds before saying to riven hey do we still have any of the clothes from the demon raid

Riven snorts at his question. "Of course we do, hero. Did you think we'd just leave all that good stuff behind?" She gestures toward her own outfit. "This is one of your tunics, remember? And it still fits like a glove." There's an unspoken challenge in her voice, as if daring him to question her loyalty or her claim to the shared gear.

The others continue their conversation around the fire, unaware of the undercurrent of tension between grey and Riven.

grey1/6/2026, 4:51:36 AM

grey then says hand me one of the bad ones i just need something to keep me warm and keep my wounds concealed

Riven narrows her eyes at him, a sneer curling up the corner of her mouth. "Fine," she says slowly, as if debating whether or not to indulge him. "But you're gonna have to earn it." With a flick of her wrist, she tosses one of the worn tunics at his feet before turning away and rejoining the group, leaving grey alone with Lyra.

Lyra glances down at the tunic on the ground, then back up at him. "
