I slowly open my eyes, squinting as the bright sky nearly blinds me. I’m lying on my back beneath a tree on top a grassy hill, but more than that I didn’t know. I sit up and look around, noticing a nearby stream and making my way over. When I kneel and lean over the water I freeze in place, almost unable to understand what I saw. My face was…different, my whole body felt and looked strange. I was about the same height as before waking up here but I had pointy ears like an elf from sime fairytale, and my eyes shone in a soft azure light. My features were sharper, almost like a bird’s, and I could hear so much more than usual. I turned around to face someone who was walking up to me, locking eyes with a young elf maiden. She was beauty personified, with slender yet strong limbs, flowing blonde hair and bright, happy yellow eyes that seemingly sparkled on their own. She was about a foot shorter than me and had an air of easygoing and cunning about her, so I was immediately convinced she was friendly.
As the elf maiden approaches you, she offers a friendly smile and nods gently in greeting. "Greetings there, stranger! You seem... different." Her eyes flicker over your features, taking in every detail that seems foreign to her. "What is it that brings you here?"
She pauses for a moment, studying your reaction carefully. It's clear she's not accustomed to interacting with someone of your appearance.
You look around, still in shock at your own appearance, before mustering the courage to speak. "I don't know... I just woke up here." You pause, trying to remember more of what happened before finding yourself on this hill. "I think my name is..." You trail off, suddenly realizing you can no longer remember your own name.
The elf maiden looks surprised by this admission but remains sympathetic. "Well, stranger, I am called Lilyella. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"My name is... I think it's Caz?" you say, your voice quiet and uncertain as you try the name out on your strange new lips. Lilyella nods encouragingly. "It's nice to meet you, Caz. Perhaps we can help each other figure out what brought us here."
Caz looks at Lilyella, then back at the hill he woke up on. "I don't know if you can help me... but maybe we can find answers together?" Slowly, a small smile creeps onto his face. "What do you suggest we do first?"
Lilyella furrowed her brows in thought for a moment, seemingly unsure of what to do before a smile of curiosity and excitement crept onto her face. She took a step closer and circled around me slowly, running her fingers around, over and along my upper body as she went, apparently looking for something. “Uh…what are you doing exactly?” I asked, turning my head to look at her as best I could while she walked around me, her eyes locked on the skin around her fingertips.
The elf maiden smiled sweetly at you, her voice light and airy as she explained, "Oh! I am simply trying to understand what it is that makes you so... different. Your skin feels strange under my touch, and your features look unlike anything I've seen before." She paused for a moment, considering her words carefully. "You see, Caz, there are many races of beings in this world: humans, elves, dwarves... even half-breeds like myself,"
The elf maiden continued, her voice taking on a more serious tone as she explained the world to you. "But there are also Magic Beasts; beings that were once animals but gained the ability to use magic over time. They can take on human or humanoid forms, like yours." She paused again, studying your reaction carefully. "Do you remember anything about yourself before waking up here?"
Her words sent a shiver down Caz's spine. Magic Beast...
Caz thought hard about what Lilyella had said, trying to recall anything that might be important. "I... I remember being in a dark place, cold and damp..." His voice trailed off as he struggled to piece together the fragments of his memories. "And then there was this light, so bright it hurt my eyes... but when it faded, I found myself here."
Lilyella nodded solemnly. "It sounds like you may have been born recently, Caz. But maybe not in the ordinary way.”
"Perhaps you were born through magic, then? Or perhaps you are the result of some dark experiment... Whatever the case may be, we should seek answers together." Lilyella looks at Caz with determination in her eyes. "I know someone who might be able to help us understand your situation better. His name is Ralvak; he's a wise and powerful elven mage living deep within the forest. If anyone can shed light on your mysterious past, it's him."
"Well then, Caz," Lilyella says with newfound confidence, "let's go find this Ralvak and get some answers." She extends a slender hand towards you, her expression expectant. "Shall we?"
Taken aback by the elf maiden's trust and kindness, Caz hesitates for a moment before finally taking her hand. "Yes," he says softly, his voice still shaking with disbelief. "Let's go find this Ralvak." Together, they begin their journey through the forest, headed towards the heart of the elven kingdom and the wise mage who may hold the key to Caz's past.
As they walk deeper into the forest, Lilyella fills Caz in on some basic information about her people and their ways. "Elves are a long-lived race," she explains, "with an innate connection to nature and magic. Our kingdom is ruled by a High Priestess who governs both our spiritual and political affairs." She pauses for a moment, studying Caz's expression before adding with a hint of mischief, "Of course, there are always those who wish to challenge her rule... But that's another story for another time."
Caz listened intently, his eyes wide with wonder at the elves' ways and culture. As they walked further into the forest, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of life awaited him among these people - whether he would be accepted as one of them or condemned for being a Magic Beast. Despite his doubts, Lilyella's companionship gave him hope that maybe there was still a place for someone like him in this world.
As the sun begins to dip below the treetops, casting long shadows across their path, Lilyella and Caz come upon a small clearing. In its center stands an ancient tree, its branches twisted and gnarled like the limbs of some terrible beast. Atop the tree sits a platform made from weathered wood, adorned with colorful fabrics and trinkets that glint in the fading light.
"We're here," Lilyella whispers reverently, leading Caz to the base of the tree.
The ancient tree seemed almost alive as it towered over them, its roots reaching out in all directions like grasping hands. The platform atop it was a testament to the respect and reverence that elves held for nature and those who wielded magic. Caz could feel a strange energy emanating from the place; it was both calming and eerie at the same time, as if he were standing on the edge of a great mystery.
Lilyella takes a deep breath, clearing her thoughts as she focuses on the ancient tree before them. She raises her voice in song, her ethereal tones carrying through the forest and echoing back to them. The melody is hauntingly beautiful, filled with longing and wonder, as if yearning for answers that only Ralvak might provide. As she sings, a soft glow begins to emanate from her fingertips, dancing like fireflies around her hands.
As the last note fades into silence, Lilyella closes her eyes and bows her head, waiting for a sign. After what seems like an eternity, they hear a rustling in the leaves overhead, and then the unmistakable sound of flapping wings. An enormous bird descends from the treetops, its white feathers glistening in the dim light as it lands gracefully on the platform.
The enormous bird, revealed to be an elven wyvern, turns its head slowly towards Lilyella and Caz. Its eyes are a piercing shade of gold that seem to see straight through them, assessing their worthiness before speaking. "Greetings, child of the forest," it says in a deep, rumbling voice, addressing Lilyella with respect. "You have come seeking knowledge and aid." It then turns its gaze towards Caz, studying him intently. "And who is this stranger that you bring?"
Lilyella introduces Caz to the elven wyvern, explaining their situation and the mysteries surrounding his origins. The wyvern listens intently, its eyes narrowing as it ponders over Caz's words. Finally, it speaks: "Very interesting indeed. If you would both climb up onto the platform, I will take you to meet Ralvak."
Climbing up onto the platform, Lilyella offers her hand to Caz once more, helping him up beside her. The elven wyvern lets out a soft chuckle at their trust in each other before spreading its wings wide and taking flight, carrying them through the forest canopy at an astonishing speed. As they soar above the treetops, Caz catches glimpses of the elven kingdom below, basking in the golden light of the setting sun.
Caz marvels at the sight, his heart racing with equal parts fear and excitement. He looks to Lilyella for reassurance, but she seems lost in thought herself. Perhaps she's thinking about her own journey here, or perhaps she's simply anticipating what Ralvak will have to say about Caz. Either way, their fates seem intertwined now, and only time will tell how things will unfold.
"I just hope we can find some answers soon," Lilyella whispers to herself, her eyes still fixed on the rapidly approaching kingdom below. "For both of our sakes." She glances at Caz, offering him a reassuring smile before turning back to watch the scenery unfold beneath them.
Caz nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on the elven wyvern's powerful wings as it effortlessly carried them through the air. "I hope so too... but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough." His voice was soft, yet full of determination. He didn't know what awaited him in this world or with Ralvak, but he knew that he would face whatever challenges came his way head-on.
Lilyella smiled warmly at Caz, her eyes full of admiration and respect. "You're stronger than you know, Caz," she said softly, putting a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "I have faith in you." As they continued their flight through the air, Lilyella couldn't help but feel grateful for the trust that this strange but intriguing Magic Beast had placed in her. It was clear to her that whatever path lay ahead for them both, they would face it together.
