your ship arrives at the icy planet, your orders are to wait until further notice, around you you only see an immense church belonging to the Sisters of Battle, and on the other side a large city covered in snow, right in front a beautiful woman appears to receive you, it is Sister Maria
I moved soundlessly and almost inhumanly fast across the snowy ground, stopping in front of Sister Maria while looking her over. I was shorter than most Adeptus, but I was muscular and clad in something called Synskin, a type of black leathery suit that was skin tone and acted as both armor and an amplifier for my already impressive abilities. “Greetings Sister Maria, a pleasure to meet you.” I said from behind the advanced and optically enhancing ranger-mask that covered my face.
She nods at you in acknowledgement and speaks with her harsh accent similar to Russian "Welcome my brother. The emperor sleeps but his light shines through us, we shall wait for his call. Come inside the church and rest." Maria turns around and walks into the large wooden door of the temple
The interior of the temple is a combination of marble and ice sculptures, all depicting various battles between humanity and its enemies. The air is cold but not uncomfortable, it smells like incense and the freshly baked bread that is offered to the poor in one of the rooms nearby. In the center you can see the golden throne where the emperor would sit when he visited this planet, now empty as a sign of respect for his slumber.
I loved like a ghost through the room, my steps completely silent and smooth as I followed Maria around the massive church halls. On my left arm I carried what looked like a trio of syringes, all filled with some strange green fluid, and on my back a large weapon, a rifle nearly as long and heavy as myself, capable of untold destruction if wielded by someone like me. Sister Maria couldn’t help but winder why she had been assigned such a rare and respectable companion, but she was grateful for the professional behaviour and protection I gave.
After a while walking around the temple, Sister Maria leads you to one of the side chambers where there's a bed made with very warm furs. "Rest here until further notice, brother. If you need anything, just call." With that said, she leaves you alone in the room.
The chamber is small and cozy, it has only one bed and a table with some books on top of it. On the wall there's an oil lamp casting warm light over the place. The bed looks very inviting after your long journey, you can feel your eyelids getting heavy...
I shake myself awake, not really trusting the inviting sight of the bed, so I pluck it apart to search for traps or other suspicious objects before piecing it back together, all within a few short moments. With hesitation I lie down and let out a small sigh, my light body barely even sinking down at all in the soft mattress.
As you lay on the bed, trying to sleep again, your thoughts wander. You can't help but think about Maria, she seems so lonely despite being part of such a prestigious order... Maybe it would be nice to talk with her or even spend some time together? But what would she think of someone like you, an alien that fights beside humanity and worships the same god? You close your eyes, trying to ignore your growing interest for her.
You finally manage to fall asleep, dreaming about battles against aliens and demons. In your dreams you see Maria leading you through a sea of blood, her sword gleaming red in the light of the dying sun. You feel her body pressed against yours, her breath warm on your neck... The dream seems so real that you almost believe it's actually happening when you wake up with a start.
You open your eyes and look around, trying to orientate yourself.
Light from the oil lamp casts shadows on the walls of the chamber as you sit up in bed, rubbing your eyes. It's still dark outside, but you can hear voices coming from somewhere nearby. You get off the bed and quietly make your way to the door, peeking through a small gap between the wall and the doorframe.
In the corridor, Sister Maria is talking with another Battle Sister.
"...I don't know what to think about him," Maria says in her harsh accent. "He seems so different from us... But then again, we all are different from each other in our own ways." The other sister shrugs noncommittally. "Perhaps you should spend more time with him, Sister Maria. You've been so focused on your duties that you haven't had much company lately..." Maria doesn't reply immediately, but she glances toward the chamber where you are hiding.
Hearing this, a strange feeling blossoms in your chest. You wonder what would happen if you revealed yourself to Maria... Would she be angry? Scared? Or perhaps even interested? Taking a deep breath, you step out of the hiding spot and walk towards them, trying to appear casual despite the racing of your heart.
"Good morning, Sisters," you say, your voice sounding deeper and more human than usual as it echoes down the corridor. "Did I oversleep?"
Both Maria and the other sister jump in surprise when they see you standing there. The other one quickly composes herself, but Maria's face betrays her confusion and maybe even a hint of excitement. "No, brother," she says finally, regaining some of her composure. "We were just discussing... err... the situation." She hesitates for a moment before continuing. "Perhaps we should train together today. It has been some time since I've sparred with someone new."
You nod eagerly, trying not to show too much enthusiasm. "That sounds like an excellent idea," you say, walking past Maria and down the corridor toward the training grounds. She follows silently, her gaze fixed on your back as if she's unsure what to make of this sudden change in your behavior.
The training grounds are a large, open area covered in snow, surrounded by tall walls to prevent any stray projectiles from harming the city nearby.
You and Maria stand facing each other at a safe distance, both dressed in your battle armor and holding your weapons. "Alright," she says, her voice firm. "Let's see what you've got." At her command, you charge forward, sprinting toward her as quickly and powerfully as possible. She meets your advance with a grin, dodging to the side at the last moment before spinning around, aiming a kick at your midsection.
My Synskin flows across my body and creates wide pools of black, ink-like fluid on the floor around my feet, anchoring me to the ground as I raise my arms to block her kick. The impact sends a numbing sensation through my chest, but I quickly retaliate and slam my shield against her knees, causing her to stumble backwards with a sharp grin on her face. We continue our sparring, neither getting the upper hand before Maria finally drops to her knees, yielding while panting heavily. I myself also feel exhausted, but a quick self-administered stim shot would easily solve that if need be. “That was…interesting. You’re a very worthy opponent, Sister Maria.”
She nods, still catching her breath as she looks up at you. There's an unreadable expression on her face, but it seems like there might be something more than just respect and admiration behind it. "Thank you... You fought well too," she says finally, slowly rising to her feet. "Perhaps we should rest for a while before continuing..." Her voice trails off as they both walk back toward the temple together.
As you head back inside, Sister Maria leads you to one of the larger rooms filled with benches and tables where other Battle Sisters are eating or reading. She motions for you to sit down at a table near the back while she fetches some food for both of you. The room feels warm and cozy despite the cold outside, and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air.
While you wait for Maria to return with their meal, you can't help but wonder about her feelings towards you...
I loose myself in thought for a moment, thinking about what happens next. It hadn’t passed me that Maria would make an excellent partner both in bed and on the battlefield, but the thought of asking was quite terrifying. I couldn’t ignore the attraction I felt for her alluring body and intriguing personality, and I caught myself staring at her curvy form as she walked towards the cafeteria.
Maria returns a few moments later carrying two wooden trays laden with food. She sets one in front of you before sitting down across from you. "Eat, brother," she says, nodding at your plate. "You've worked up quite an appetite today."
As you eat, the two of you engage in idle conversation about training and their shared duties as Battle Sisters. Maria seems to be more relaxed around you now, laughing at your jokes and even sharing stories from her past missions. The warmth in the room, combined with her presence and the scent of food, make it hard for you not to feel drawn to her...
