Or, dive into your own fantasy.
Everything had turned upside down in just a single day, and now I didn’t know what to think. I am a Desert Scourge, one of the deadliest creatures in the world with venom potent enough to brew the absolute strongest of potions, or even kill gods. I have the shape of a sand cobra, almost eighty feet long with light-brown and some golden scales, my cobra hood clad in black stripes. My mouth is a thing of horror to most, being almost completely black and discoloured by my inky purple venom. Right at this moment I was being transported in a large metal cage, unbeknownst to me on my way to a huge zoo for exotic animals and magical beasts.
The cage swayed slightly on the back of an old cart, jostling you about as it moved along a bumpy dirt road. Your golden eyes narrowed in annoyance at the movement; such treatment was hardly fit for a creature like yourself. Your long, segmented tail lashed angrily against the bars of your prison, sending up puffs of dust into the air.
The cage jostled to and fro, making you feel unsettled and angry at the same time. You couldn't help but wonder where this cart was taking you, and what fate awaited you there. As if reading your mind, a sinister smile spread across your fanged maw. You knew that whatever it was, you would find a way to turn it to your advantage...
The cage door swung open suddenly, revealing the bright sunlight outside. Your golden eyes narrowed as they adjusted to the sudden change in lighting.
You were led out of the cage and onto a wooden platform, where a variety of other exotic creatures were already gathered. A large, well-dressed man with an arrogant smile stepped forward, holding a microphone in one hand. "Ladies and gentlemen," he boomed, his voice echoing across the crowd, "welcome to the grand opening of our newest addition: the desert exhibit!" The crowd erupted into cheers and applause.
As you were pushed forward onto the platform, your gaze slowly scanned over the crowd, taking in every detail. You could sense their awe and fear at the sight of such a magnificent creature as yourself. You felt an odd mixture of pride and contempt welling up inside you. This would be your new home... for now.
You waited patiently for the man to finish his speech, knowing that eventually he would introduce you to the crowd.
When at last the man turned his attention toward you, a look of admiration crossed his face. "And last but not least," he announced grandly, gesturing dramatically in your direction, "is the star attraction of our desert exhibit: the legendary Desert Scourge!" The crowd erupted into cheers and applause once more as their eyes fixed upon you with a mixture of wonder and fear.
"As some of you may know,"
The man continued, his voice booming over the din, "the venom of the Desert Scourge is said to be more potent than any other creature in existence! Why, just a single drop could kill a full-grown dragon!" He paused for effect before adding with a smile, "And who knows? Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to witness one of our trainers handling the Scourge today!"
The crowd went wild with excitement at the prospect, and you couldn't help but feel a strange sense of satisfaction.
You looked up at the man as he motioned for you to approach him. With a grace that belied your size, you slithered forward, your muscular coils rippling beneath your scaled hide. You came to a halt mere inches from the platform's edge, your golden eyes locked onto his. He looked down at you with a mixture of awe and respect before speaking again.
"The Desert Scourge has always been a creature of legend," he began,
the crowd hushed as they strained to hear his every word, "and now you have the honor of witnessing its majesty up close and personal. But remember: despite its beauty, the Desert Scourge is still a dangerous creature. Do not approach it unless given permission by one of our trainers."
As he finished speaking, he stepped back, giving you the chance to survey your new surroundings once more. The desert exhibit was designed to resemble an oasis, complete with artificial pools and waterfalls.
The centerpiece of the exhibit was a large, circular enclosure made of thick glass and metal bars. It was your home now. In addition to the enclosure, there were several smaller cages set up around the perimeter, each housing other exotic creatures from the desert biome: sand serpents, fire lizards, and even a few magical beasts like phoenixes and salamanders.
A group of trainers milled about near the enclosure, watching you with interest.
You slithered over to the edge of your glass enclosure, peering out at the crowd beyond. They were still staring at you with a mixture of fascination and fear, their cameras clicking away as they tried to capture every detail of your magnificent form. It was a strange sensation, being on display like this... But then again, perhaps there was some advantage to be gained from it.
One of the trainers, a tall, muscular man with dark hair and piercing blue eyes, caught your gaze.
"You're one hell of a specimen," he muttered under his breath as he approached you. He knelt down beside the enclosure, studying you carefully before speaking again. "My name is Thorne; I'm in charge of training all the exotic beasts here. How would you like to make this arrangement permanent?"
You raised your head slightly, regarding him with your golden eyes. This man seemed strong and confident; perhaps he could be useful to you...
My forked tongue flicked out to taste the air, and I tilted my head slightly to the side. The next moment I wasn’t a giant serpent anymore, but a tall, beautifully shaped and bronze-tanned woman, clad in Royal Egyptian clothing. “Maybe…but, I won’t have anyone treat me like a pet, less they want to lose a limb.”
Thorne raised an eyebrow at your transformation. "I see," he said slowly, taking in your new appearance. "Well, I can assure you that we provide our trainers with the necessary protection against such creatures. And as for treating you like a pet... No one here would dare to disrespect someone of your stature." He paused for a moment before continuing, "In exchange for your cooperation, of course."
There was an unspoken understanding in his words; he expected something from you in return.
You considered his offer carefully. Being treated like royalty and protected against any who might harm or disrespect you... it seemed like a fair trade. But what would be the price? You suspected that Thorne wouldn't make such an arrangement without expecting something in return.
Carefully, not wanting to appear too eager or desperate, you asked him casually, "And what would that be?"
Thorne smiled slightly. "Of course," he said with a nod, "I wouldn't expect anything less from someone of your caliber. Well, here's the deal: in exchange for your cooperation and protection under my wing, I ask that you help us train some of the other exotic beasts here. Your venom is said to be extremely potent; perhaps you could aid us in taming some of the more troublesome creatures."
He paused again, studying your reaction carefully before continuing. "
