you and Charlotte. had been friends since the school year started both in high school. However she never showed emotions and never told you why. At First it was concerning then you grew used to it. You were currently in math class and Charlotte. was late. You tried texting her but nothing. Then a few minutes later she walked in and sat down with a black eye. No one seemed to notice. That is except for you she didn't look at you but said one thing
''hey..''
she said that with no Emotion in her tone like a robot..
Violet noticed the black eye that her friend had received, but didn't want to make her upset by mentioning it, so she just minded her own business. "Hi..." she returned in her usual soft yet held back tone. Violet was slightly shorter than most, only standing about 5'3 feet, with circular glasses, she really didn't have much on her, her thin figure and self-inflicted harm of varying levels, yet hides it under long sleeves and pants. Life's and society's expectations weighed on her, causing her to not care for herself and just try to please others to an extent. Her parents were very strict and held very high expectations for her, which was near impossible to reach for someone like her, this usually got her punished. Now as time had passed, Violet had found herself growing more comfortable in her despair and depression, usually minding her own business within her apartment with all different scars from self-harm.
Charlotte glanced at Violet briefly before looking away again. She didn't want to talk about it and she was sure that Violet wouldn't care anyway. She continued to ignore her class, staring at the blank board as if the answers would just magically appear on it. Eventually the bell rang for lunch and Charlotte stood up without saying anything. She walked out of the room, not looking back at Violet
Violet popped in her earbuds, turning on some music that kinda was like how she felt, deciding on 'salt-wound routine' as she exited the classroom.
As Charlotte walked through the hallways, she could feel a few pairs of eyes on her back. But she ignored it, pretending like they weren't there. She had gotten used to being treated differently by everyone at school. It was just another day for her. Eventually, she made it to her usual spot in an out-of-the-way corner of the cafeteria and sat down on the cold tile floor with her back against a brick wall.
Violet dragged herself outside and behind the building with her lunch and some cigarettes she hid in her uniform without being caught, trying to feel something at least as she lit one.
While everyone else was inside enjoying their lunch, Charlotte sat there alone, eating her meal in silence. She didn't have any friends other than Violet, but even then they weren't really friends. They were more like two people who happened to know each other and tolerated each other's presence.
As everyone else inside were enjoying their lunches with friends, Violet sat solemnly outside and behind the building with nothing but her usual depressing sandwich and few cigarettes by her side as she started to smoke.
After finishing her lunch, Charlotte stood up and tossed her trash in a nearby bin before making her way back inside the school. She didn't bother looking for Violet or saying anything to her as she walked past her. The rest of the day was uneventful, with both girls sitting through their remaining classes in silence. Finally, the last bell rang and they were dismissed for the day. Charlotte didn't wait around long before leaving school grounds and disappearing into the anonymity of the nearby city.
Violet gets up from her seat as the bell rang, moving along and leaving the school grounds, returning to her rich parents' two-story mansion, yet isn't spoiled brat, nor didn't change her personality at home, just stayed the same glum looking girl who wore black 24/7 before heading back to her room to study on school work.
After arriving home, Charlotte immediately changed out of her school uniform and into a pair of comfortable sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. Her parents weren't home yet, so she had the house to herself for now. She went straight to her room and closed the door behind her before collapsing onto her bed.
For the next few hours, Charlotte did nothing but stare at the ceiling and think about everything that had happened over the past week.
As soon as Violet entered her own room, she didn't feel like doing any homework this time and just flopped down onto her bed thinking to herself.
After a while of laying there in silence, Charlotte decided that maybe going for a walk would help clear her head. She got up from her bed and slipped on a pair of sneakers before quietly making her way out of the house without anyone noticing. It was already starting to get dark outside as she walked aimlessly through the neighborhood, lost in thought.
Violet just imagined herself in the shoes of someone with a normal life, just someone having a loving family, a normal friend group, a normal life. That's just all she wanted, just to be normal...
As Charlotte continued her walk, she eventually found herself standing in front of an old abandoned house that she had often passed by but never thought much about. Something about it called out to her tonight, and so she decided to investigate further. She carefully made her way inside, avoiding any loose boards or other potential hazards.
The inside was just as decrepit as the outside suggested it would be. Dust covered everything and cobwebs hung from the ceiling like eerie curtains.
Violet got up from her bed and walked into the garden of her manor, slowly taking in the surroundings of plant life around her, trying to find a grip on reality as she sits under a tree in the garden, then a light downpour begins, yet Violet didn't move back inside, she sat there under the tree, just listening to the light downpour around her, thudding against the ground softly with each drop.
While exploring the abandoned house, Charlotte came across a hidden room tucked away behind a bookshelf in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The door was slightly ajar, and when she pushed it open she revealed a small, dimly lit space filled with all sorts of old junk. Intrigued, she stepped inside and began rummaging through the items.
After spending some time sifting through the clutter, she found an old diary hidden at the back of a dusty shelf.
