Backstory time and places in the fallout universe

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:27:20 PM

Its 170 years after the bombs dropped i am a 23 year old guy slightly muscular who left the khans 3 years ago, now I have been surviving doing mercenary and contract work with my dog "dogmeat" I am in the middle of moving cargo for the van graffs to freeside

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:27:20 PM

You're just another survivor in the wasteland known as post-apocalyptic Earth. The world has changed drastically since those fateful moments when nuclear bombs were dropped on major cities, plunging humanity into a dark age. Now, you roam the ruins of civilization with your trusty canine companion, Dogmeat, completing mercenary and contract work for the Van Graffs. Your destination?

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:27:50 PM

My destination is a warehouse in freeside outside of the new vegas strip

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:27:50 PM

As you approach Freeside and spot the warehouse, you notice several groups of wastelanders hanging around suspiciously. Being alert and cautious is key in this dangerous place. Should you try to blend in or confront them head-on?

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:28:45 PM

I walk up and try to see why they are there "How are all doing? Do you mind if I bring this package here into that building behind yourselves"

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:28:45 PM

"Sure," one of the wastelanders responds. "But be careful in there. The warehouse has been giving us trouble lately." They point you towards a door leading into the darkened interior of the building.

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:29:41 PM

I continue walking into the building, as soon as I open the door I get bad vibes, like something is off

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:29:41 PM

As you enter the warehouse, your senses are assaulted by the overwhelming stench of death and decay. The once-familiar sounds of rats scurrying and wind howling through broken windows now seem eerily out of place. You can't shake the feeling that something terrible has happened here...

In the dim light, you spot a group of Van Graffs mercenaries huddled around a makeshift camp in one corner. They appear to be arguing about something.

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:31:04 PM

Howdy yall, just wondering where I need to drop off this package? they look at me with a confused glance and then remember i was supposed to be coming, it sounds like someone important in their gang was killed right before I arrived

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:31:04 PM

One of the mercenaries steps forward, his expression grim. "We're in the middle of a crisis," he says tersely. "The boss was just taken out by some raiders. We need you to help us defend our position until backup arrives."

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:32:42 PM

I look at them suprised that wasn't part of the deal, I better be getting a bonus.

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:32:42 PM

The mercenary glares at you impatiently. "Look, we're in a tight spot here. Either help us out or leave. But there won't be any extra compensation unless you stick around."

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:33:44 PM

Whatever I stay and help them find off from the mercenaries, after killing 3 guys the coast is clear and they thank me

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:33:45 PM

The Van Graffs seem genuinely grateful for your help in defending their position. Their leader, a grizzled veteran named Vargas, approaches you with an offer of employment. "We could use someone like you on our team permanently," he says, his voice roughened by smoke and age. "What do you say?"

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:34:31 PM

I dont run with gangs anymore, thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass. Let me know if you have any more work though.

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:34:32 PM

Vargas nods understandingly. "Alright then. We'll keep you in mind for future jobs," he says before turning away to rejoin his group. As they begin to organize their defenses once more, you can't help but feel a twinge of regret about not joining forces with them permanently. But perhaps it's best to remain independent for now...

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:36:28 PM

I head back out into the wasteland and leave freeside, it's getting dark so im starting to think about where to set up camp, as I am walking i notice someone in the distance wearing a blue and yellow jumpsuit, I quickly head that way and see a confused woman wearing a tight fitting vault suit that shows off her curves and body well I'll be damned, a real vault dweller..... you musta just popped out of the ground too.

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:36:28 PM

Surprised and slightly amused by your bluntness, she responds with a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Yeah, you know it," she says, nodding towards the direction from which you came. "I just popped out of the ground too." She crosses her arms beneath her breasts, regarding you warily.

"You with the Van Graffs?" she asks suspiciously.

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:37:03 PM

How do you know about the van graffs if you just left the vault..... you one of those vaults that trades with the outside world?

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:37:03 PM

The woman snorts derisively. "No, no trading with the outside world in my vault. But we had our sources." She glances at you sideways, sizing you up. "So, what brings you out here?"

"Just making a living," you reply casually. "You?"

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:38:01 PM

Yeah I think your mission might be more important than mine, you vaultie folks dont care to much for leaving your hole.

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:38:01 PM

She chuckles softly at that. "Well, I'm not sure about 'important', but our mission is... urgent." She pauses for a moment, considering her words carefully. "Look, I've been out here long enough to know the score. There are things going on in this wasteland that most people don't even know about yet. If we don't do something soon..."

Her voice trails off, leaving the rest unsaid but ominous nonetheless.

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:38:31 PM

Well why are you out here? What are you supposed to do?

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:38:31 PM

She glances around nervously before lowering her voice to a whisper. "We've been sent to investigate some strange goings-on at an old bunker out in the wastes. Reports of unusual radio transmissions, lights seen flickering... Things that shouldn't be there." Her eyes narrow as she studies your face for any sign of recognition or suspicion. "You haven't heard anything about this, have you?"

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:39:18 PM

Heh yeah...... yup.... i know exactly what you're talking about, it's them damn brotherhood of steel weirdos

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:39:18 PM

She looks at you with surprise and a hint of caution. "The Brotherhood? You're sure?" she asks quietly. You nod, deciding not to mention your brief association with the Khans or your recent work for the Van Graffs. "Well," she says, drawing out the word slowly, "if they are indeed involved, then this could be much more serious than we originally thought."

She pauses for a moment, frowning in concentration. "Look, I could use someone with your experience and connections... would you consider helping us?"

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:42:43 PM

Nope.... i wouldn't consider it.... matter of fact I've had a whole other idea for you this whole time I smack her on the head with my pistol, she is knocked out and I place a bomb collar on her knew that will explode if she runs 15 feet away from me, I look through her pip boy and see a mark on the map where her vault is, I drag her while she's unconscious to the location of the vault and find the door in the side of a rock, I use her pip boy to open the door and enter, the people look suprised as I enter and are scared of my weaponry, they have no way to defend themselves and I shut the door behind me after I dragged in the vault dweller, I force one of the guards to let me use the loudspeaker and I announce that I am the new leader of this vault

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:42:43 PM

The people in the Vault are stunned into silence as you drag their fellow dweller inside and make an announcement about taking control. Several guards try to step forward, only to be met with a cold gaze from your weapon. They slowly back down, eyes widening in fear. After a moment of tense silence, one of them finally finds his voice.

"You... you can't just do this!" he exclaims, trembling with rage and terror. "We have procedures for this sort of thing!

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:44:23 PM

as the most muscular of the vault guards pleads with me I shoot him in the forehead, and yell out "I CAN JUST DO THIS" the vault dweller I dragged in wakes from her unconscious state and sees one of the people she grew up with dead on the floor in front of her and she's confused how she's back in the vault

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:44:23 PM

The Vault Dweller's eyes widen in shock and horror as she takes in the sight of her friend lying dead on the floor. "What... what have you done?" she whispers, tears welling up in her eyes. Her voice is laced with disbelief and betrayal.

The other Vault dwellers exchange frightened glances, unsure how to react. Some look at you with a mixture of fear and respect, while others simply stare in horror at the carnage unfolding before them.

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:45:41 PM

I press a button on the vault door panel and put it in lock down so nobody can open it, I then walk into the vault and uo a staircase to the overseers room and open the door, the overseer pleads and begs before I kill him and push him off his chair before I sit in it

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:45:41 PM

The Vault Dweller watches in silent horror as you murder the Overseer and take his place. Her eyes burn with hatred and despair, but she knows there's little she can do to stop you now. The other Vault dwellers exchange frightened glances once more, unsure what to make of this sudden turn of events.

As you sit in the Overseer's chair, a sense of power washes over you. But it's tempered by the knowledge that these people are now completely dependent on your every decision...

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:48:12 PM

I turn on the loudspeaker and speak into the microphone on the desk in front of me "I am your new overseer, if you want to live you will do as I tell you, firstly, I am looking for a loyal companion who will help me run the show, they have to do as I say and will be rewarded immensely for their hard work and dedication, secondly we will now be going by wasteland rules, so be ready for changes, im going to whip this place into shape and lead this vault into a prosperous future*

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:48:12 PM

The Vault Dweller glares at you, her expression a mixture of anger and fear. She's clearly not happy about your takeover, but she knows better than to openly defy you in front of the entire Vault. Several other Vault dwellers murmur among themselves, their expressions ranging from confusion to outright terror.

As you finish speaking, one of them raises a tentative hand. "Um... what about our jobs?" he asks nervously. "Will we still have those under your leadership?"

User#17535978642169/29/2025, 7:49:24 PM

You will all have your jobs but I will be removing and adding new jobs soon, we will focus on hard labor and work and jobs like entertainers will be removed, fulfillment comes from hard work not idiots telling jokes

Fallout9/29/2025, 7:49:25 PM

A few whispers can be heard among the Vault Dwellers at your words. Some seem to nod in understanding while others exchange worried glances. One woman, however, steps forward defiantly. "And what about our lives outside of work? Are we still allowed to have any sort of personal freedom?" she asks boldly.

The tension in the room seems to thicken as you consider your response...
