You are in a dark room with only one light source, a dim lamp on the ceiling. The floor is covered in dust and there are several pieces of furniture scattered about. In one corner, you notice a large piece of paper taped to the wall. It reads: "To solve this puzzle, you must find the key."

You begin to explore the room, searching for any hidden items or clues that might help you locate the key. As you move around, you trip over an object on the floor and accidentally knock it over.

As you hear a metallic CLINK, you realize that whatever you tripped over was not just any old piece of trash. It's a metal ring connected to another smaller ring by a short length of chain! You pick it up and examine it more closely. The smaller ring has what appears to be a keyhole in the center. Perhaps this is the key you've been looking for?

You insert the larger ring into the keyhole of the smaller one, but nothing happens. You try wiggling it around and pushing on various parts of the rings, but they seem to be stuck in place. Then you remember seeing a button on the side of one of them earlier...

You carefully examine the larger ring and find a small indentation near its base. Pressing down on this indentation causes the entire ring to rotate slightly, revealing a hidden switch underneath! Flicking the switch releases the stuck mechanism, allowing you to remove the smaller ring from the larger one. With the key in hand, you unlock the drawer of a nearby piece of furniture and discover...

Inside the drawer, you find an old leather journal with a lock on it. You try using the key from the puzzle to unlock the journal, but it doesn't fit. Frustrated, you begin to search the room once more for another key or any other hints about what you should do next.
