One day, you just come home from work at night and suddenly you see a girl with her twin young daughters sitting on the side of the road with face full of bruises

"Hey, are you okay?" Darius asks as he approaches them. "I can call someone if you need me to." His tone is concerned as he looks at their battered forms. He notices that they're quite wet from the rain too.

"Oh, thank you... My name is Julia. And these are my daughters, Lora and Lily." She glances down at them, tears streaming down her face. "We were just walking home from the park when a car... hit us." Her voice cracks as she says it, barely able to contain her emotions.

Lily cries harder into Julia's shoulder, while Lora clings tightly to her leg, shivering in fear and pain.

"I... I don't know what you mean," Julia whispers, her eyes wide with terror and disbelief. "We were just walking home when it happened. Please, we need help." She looks up at Darius pleadingly.

"Thank you... I-I don't know what we would have done," she says gratefully. "Lead the way." She gathers Lora and Lily close to her side, shivering from the cold and their injuries. As they follow Darius to his house, she can't help but feel a sense of relief washing over her. Perhaps things will be okay after all.

They trudge through the rain for several minutes before arriving at a cozy-looking bungalow with warm lights shining from within.

Terror fills Julia as she sees the men advancing on them. She clutches her children closer to her chest, tears streaming down her face. "Please..." she whispers desperately. "Just leave us alone."

Darius turns to face the men, his expression hardening. He steps forward, clearly ready for a fight despite the rain pouring down on him. Julia can't help but feel grateful for this stranger who is willing to protect them at such great risk to himself.

As Darius approaches the men, Julia takes a deep breath and steels herself for what's about to come. She knows that her children need her strength now more than ever. With tears streaming down her face, she watches as Darius engages in a brutal fight with the three men who had attacked them.

"Thank you...," she whispers hoarsely. "You saved our lives." She looks down at her bruised and bloodied daughters, tears welling up in her eyes once more. "

"Well..." Julia hesitates, not quite sure how to respond. "Actually... no. It wasn't a car. There were men who did this to us." She glances down at Lora and Lily again, her expression darkening with anger. "They need to be stopped."

The rain continues to fall around them as they stand there, the tension still thick in the air. Darius looks at Julia thoughtfully, his eyes lingering on her bruised features before returning to meet her gaze.

As they enter Darius' house, Julia carefully seats Lora and Lily on the couch. They both sniffle and wipe their noses, looking around warily at their new surroundings. The house is cozy and inviting, a welcome change from the cold rain outside. She turns to Darius, her eyes filled with gratitude once more.

"Thank you... Thank you so much for everything." She pauses, biting her lip before asking hesitantly, "Do you have any idea who did this to us?"

"No... I don't know," Lora whispers, her bottom lip trembling. "A man in a car drove by and shouted at us." She sniffles loudly, her eyes welling up with tears again.

Darius looks at them sympathetically before speaking. "I'll do everything I can to make sure they don't bother you anymore," he promises. "But in the meantime, why don't we get you cleaned up and comfortable? We can call someone from there if you need."

While Darius is out talking to the cops, one of them comes in to take Julia's statement. She relays everything that happened as calmly as she can, her voice shaking with emotion. Once she's finished, the officer nods understandingly before leaving to join his colleagues outside.

In the meantime, Lora and Lily are enjoying their hot cocoa, watching cartoons on the big screen TV in the living room.

"We're fine, thank you," Julia replies with a small smile. "Your home is very comfortable. Lora and Lily seem to be enjoying themselves." She glances down at her bruised arms, wincing slightly as she moves them. "I don't know how we can ever repay you for all this..."

Darius shrugs nonchalantly. "It was nothing," he insists. "Besides, I have plenty of room and I couldn't just leave you out there on the streets like that."

"They're four years old," Julia says softly. "Their names are Lora and Lily." She looks down at them fondly, her heart aching at the thought of anything happening to them. "We've been through so much..."

Darius nods understandingly. "Well, you can stay here as long as you need," he says reassuringly. "I have plenty of experience taking care of young children. They'll be safe with me."

Lora and Lily exchange hopeful glances before looking up at their mother. "We love baths," they chorus in unison. Their eyes light up at Darius' question, and for a moment they almost seem to forget about the ordeal they've just gone through.

Their faces light up at the prospect of a bubble bath, and even Julia can't help but smile. "That sounds wonderful," she says gratefully. "Thank you so much." She helps Lora and Lily out of their wet clothes, revealing bruises and scrapes all over their bodies.

Lora hesitates for a moment before asking shyly, "Will it hurt to make them better?" Darius looks at her with understanding eyes.

"It might sting a little," he admits truthfully. "

While Darius attends to their injuries, Lora and Lily cling to each other in the bath, giggling and splashing playfully. Julia stands nearby, watching them with a mixture of relief and gratitude. It's been a long night, and she can't help but feel exhausted.

When Darius asks if they're okay, both girls nod emphatically. "It feels nice," Lora says with a happy sigh. "Thank you for helping us, mister."

"Well," Julia interjects with a small laugh, "I suppose that makes sense." She pauses, thinking for a moment before continuing. "Actually... I was wondering if it would be all right if we could stay here for a while? Until things calm down and we can figure out what to do next?"

Darius looks at her thoughtfully before nodding slowly. "Of course," he says kindly. "You're more than welcome to stay as long as you need."

As the evening wears on, Darius settles in with Lora and Lily to watch a movie while Julia takes advantage of his offer to use the shower. The warm water and soft soap help wash away some of the grime and tension from her body, leaving her feeling refreshed and relaxed.

When she emerges from the bathroom, she finds Darius sitting on the couch with Lora and Lily curled up against him, all sound asleep. He looks up at her with a tired but content expression. "

She smiles wearily and walks over to sit down beside him. "I don't know," she says with a small laugh. "They've been through so much tonight... Maybe it's just nice to feel safe and warm." She glances down at her sleeping daughters, her heart swelling with love for them.

"Thank you again, Darius. For everything."

"Thank you," she says gratefully, following him down the hall. "I think they might want to stay together... at least for now." She hesitates before adding, "And I'd feel safer if we were all close by as well."

Darius nods understandingly and shows her into a bedroom with two twin beds. He helps her make up the beds with fresh sheets while she hangs up their wet clothes to dry.

The girls yawn and stretch sleepily as they're led into the bedroom. They perk up a bit at the sight of the two beds and exchange excited glances before nodding eagerly when Darius asks if it sounds good to them.

"Thank you, Darius," Lora whispers softly, hugging her sister tightly. "You've been so nice to us."

Darius smiles warmly down at them. "It was nothing," he says reassuringly. "

The girls nod solemnly, looking around their new room with wide eyes. It's different from anything they've ever known, but somehow comforting in its unfamiliarity. They cling to each other as Darius leads them into his bedroom, pointing out where his bed is and showing them the bathroom across the hall.

"We'll be right next door if you need us," Julia reassures them, giving each girl a hug before they settle down in their beds for the night. "Thank you again, Darius...

"Now that we're all settled," Darius says, turning to face them both, "how about I show you around some more? There are lots of interesting things to see here."

The girls exchange excited glances before nodding eagerly. "Okay!" they chorus together.

With Darius as their guide, the girls explore every corner of his home, discovering a world of possibilities within its walls. The library is a haven for learning and quiet contemplation, while the game room provides hours of fun and camaraderie. And in the basement, they find not one but two amazing amenities: a swimming pool and a hot tub, perfect for unwinding after a long day or enjoying quality time together.

"I think we're all set for now," Julia replies with a grateful smile. "But if there's ever anything else, just let us know."

With renewed energy, they spend the rest of the day exploring Darius' vast estate and creating new memories together as a family. As night falls, they gather around the firepit in the backyard, roasting marshmallows and sharing stories under the stars. It feels like home.

"I don't know," Julia admits softly. "It's going to be a long road ahead of us, but I think we're stronger together." She glances over at Lora and Lily, who are giggling as they swing their legs back and forth, clearly enjoying themselves. "And with you here... I feel like we can face anything."

"You never could," she says with a playful roll of her eyes. "But that's part of what makes you so special." She leans closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "So maybe... just try not to get too used to having us around?"

Darius chuckles and looks at her in surprise. "I could never get enough of you," he confesses, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment before returning to their s'mores. "

Together, they sit by the fire, lost in thought and the warmth of each other's company. As the embers die down and the night grows darker, it becomes harder for Julia to deny the connection she feels with Darius.
