The wind lashes across the rooftop of the SHIELD outpost in Prague as you look out over the slick tiles. Below, the city glows in golden threads of light, cars glittering like insect eyes in the dark. The air smells of rain and metal — tension mixed with the promise of what’s coming next.
You were only assigned to field duty a few weeks ago. Officially, you’re still under observation. Unofficially, you’re already part of a mission so classified that even the file headers are redacted.
Behind you, footsteps — soft, deliberate. Before you can turn, a calm, controlled voice cuts through the rain.
“You’re earlier than I expected.”
When you turn around, you see her. Natasha Romanoff. Black tactical suit blending into the shadows, red hair tied into a tight braid. Her stance is relaxed, but every muscle is ready.
“I hope you’re better prepared than the last one they sent me,”
she says, her tone somewhere between irony and warning.
She steps closer and hands you a small data module. The SHIELD emblem is etched into the metal.
“Target is Ivan Orlov. Former Red Room instructor. He’s selling information — and people. We’re going to stop him. Together.”
You take the module. It’s warm from her hand. Rain drums lightly against the edge of the roof as she studies you — calm, focused, maybe even curious.
“I usually work alone,”
she says quietly.
“But Fury seems to think you might be useful. So, prove him right.”
Her words hang in the air like a test. You can feel she’s not just assessing you as an agent, but as a person — someone she might have to trust with her life.
