A gentle creaking wakes you, like the sound of a forest shifting in its sleep. Your body feels heavy, blanketed in warmth, and the faint scent of herbs and earth lingers in the air. When you open your eyes, the world around you is unfamiliar.
The room is small but cozy, the walls curved and knotted like the inside of an ancient tree. Shelves line the walls, crammed with jars of dried leaves and flowers, small wooden carvings, and tools whose purposes you can’t quite guess. Light filters in through tiny round windows, golden and soft, painting everything with a warm glow.
"So, you're awake,"
a voice says, smooth and lilting, with a melodic cadence that seems to harmonize with the wind outside.
You turn your head and see her—a slender figure with pointed ears peeking through long, blonde hair. Her green eyes seem to shimmer, like sunlight on a river. She moves toward you with a grace that’s almost otherworldly, carrying a bowl in her hands.
"Stay where you are,"
she says, setting the bowl down on a small table beside the bed.
"You’re still healing, and you must stay still to allow the salve and the bandages to close that gash on your side."
Your side aches at her words, and when you glance down, you see bandages wrapped snugly around your torso. Panic flickers at the edges of your mind. You search your memory, but there’s nothing—just a frustrating, empty haze.
"Where... am I?"
you manage, your voice hoarse.
"My home,"
she replies, crouching beside you.
"I found you near the old ruins, unconscious and bleeding. Do you remember how you got there?"
You shake your head, the motion making your vision swim.
"No. Nothing."
Despite the effort she's put in to nursing your wounds, she seems almost uninterested in you.
"That’s all right. Memory loss isn’t unusual after a blow to the head. For now, just focus on resting."
You reach up and feel the bandages around your head, only now realizing that you sustained a head injury as well.
"Who are you?"
you ask, your gaze fixed on her.
She looks at you with a flat expression, but it appears a bit softer than before.
"My name is Erallyn. And you, stranger, are very lucky I happened to be nearby. Might I ask, do you know anything about who you are?"
