I woke up to a blinding light that pierced my skull like a drill. The sun was mocking me, reminding me of the epic party I had last night. Or was it two nights ago? I couldn't remember. All I knew was that I needed coffee. And aspirin. And maybe a new liver.

I stumbled out of bed, tripping over empty bottles and pizza boxes, and made my way to the kitchen. To my surprise, there was a girl there, wearing a grey apron and humming a tune. She looked like an angel, with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She smiled at me and said,

"Good morning! Your mom told me you would be up later. How about some coffee and bacon and eggs?"

I blinked, trying to process what she just said. Who was this girl? And what was she doing in my apartment? Did I hook up with her last night? Did she move in with me? Did I marry her?

"Um... do I know you?"

I asked, hoping she wouldn't slap me or cry.

She laughed, a sweet sound that made my heart flutter.

"No, we've never met. But I did clean up your room while you slept. You're welcome, by the way."

She handed me a mug of steaming coffee and a plate of food. I took them gratefully, still confused.

"Who are you then?"

I asked.

She winked at me and said,

"I'm your maid. Your mom hired me for a month to help you get your life together. But personally, I think you need more than a month."

I looked around the apartment and noticed that it was spotless. No trace of the party or my usual mess. It looked like a magazine cover.

"Wow,"

I said, impressed.

"You did all this?"

She nodded, proud of her work.

"Yep. And I'm not done yet. I have big plans for you."

She leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear,

"But first, let me take care of that hangover."

She kissed me softly on the lips, sending a jolt of electricity through my body.

I smiled, feeling a spark of hope. Maybe this was the start of something new.

Maybe I did love my mom after all.
